Own a Larry Alcala NFT thru PDAX and Scarletbox

Larry Alcala’s iconic illustrations for “Slice of Life”, which used to be a weekly feature on local newspapers and magazines in the 80’s and 90’s–will soon be making a comeback–this time as digital art, more popularly known as non-fungible tokens or “NFTs”.

The collection will feature individual characters used throughout the Slice of Life scenes, which owners can use as completely profile pictures (PFPs) with actual historical significance. As NFTs, each piece is a completely unique blockchain-based asset which makes use of the technology to ascribe ownership and providence in a way that ensures that they cannot be replicated or altered.  

Larry Alcala, one of the Philippines’ most celebrated editorial cartoonists, received the National Artist Award and the Grand Collar of the Order of National Artists for his contributions to Pinoy pop culture, in a career that spanned almost six decades until his departure in 2002. “Slice of Life” was Alcala’s most popular comic, wherein readers could make a game out of trying to locate his cleverly hidden caricature in the full-page illustrations depicting daily scenes of Filipino society. 

The upcoming NFT collection will also contain rare pieces with embedded images from other other NFT projects that have partnered with Scarletbox, such as Bjorn Calleja, Black Eyed Freaks, Bored Punks of Society, Distort Monsters, Mustachios and Planktoons. Fittingly, the rarest in the collection will contain Alcala’s own signature caricature.  

This is the only time that Larry Alcala’s works will be available at a discounted price.
