The U.S. Senate Banking Committee has approved the GENIUS Act, a bill aimed at regulating stablecoins by allowing issuers to register with state or federal authorities. The bill passed with bipartisan support (18-6 vote) and seeks to balance innovation with consumer protection.
Some senators are pushing for stricter security measures to prevent illicit use, while critics warn of potential risks if regulations are too loose. The bill now moves to the full Senate for further debate before it can become law.
Ethereum devs launch new testnet to finish Pectra upgrade amid struggles (CryptoSlate)
Ethereum developers launched a new testnet to complete the Pectra upgrade after running into issues. The upgrade aims to improve Ethereum accounts, make staking easier, and boost layer-2 scaling. It was first tested on Holesky but failed due to a small bug. Now, it has been successfully deployed on the Sepolia testnet, moving closer to a full launch expected in April 2025.
