DOJ cleared to sell $6.5B in Bitcoin seized from Silk Road (Crypto Briefing)
Crypto Briefing reports that the US Department of Justice has been cleared to liquidate 69,370 BTC that it seized from the Silk Road darknet marketplace. The amount is currently valued at approximately US$6.5B, and news of the potential sale “briefly pressured the market, with Bitcoin falling from approximately $95,000 to $93,800” upon its dissemination.
Arthur Hayes Predicts Crypto Market to Peak by March 2025, Driven by Dollar Liquidity (Yahoo Finance)
Yahoo Finance relays updated predictions made by Arthur Hayes, former CEO of BitMEX and current Chief Investment Officer at Maelstrom, that the market could peak in the next two months. Hayes’s updated predictions account for what he called a “Trump dump” having already occurred earlier than expected, and the ongoing liquidity of the US dollar.

BitPinas announces that the PH SEC has released a draft of its “Rules on Crypto-Assets Service Providers,” and that the agency is seeking feedback from the public. They highlight that comments and similar input “can be sent to Atty. Paolo Montano M. Ong at the SEC Headquarters or emailed to fintech@sec.gov.ph by January 18, 2025.”
