SEC announces ‘Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit’ to combat crypto fraud (Cointelegraph)
The U.S. SEC has set up a new team, the Cyber and Emerging Technologies Unit (CETU), to tackle crypto and blockchain fraud. Replacing the old Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit, this group of about 30 experts will focus on protecting everyday investors from scams and shady activities in the crypto space. Led by Laura D’Allaird, CETU aims to support innovation by eliminating fraudulent activities that undermine investor confidence and market integrity.
Crypto worth $99 million withdrawn from Milei-backed Libra token, researchers say (Reuters)
Researchers from blockchain analysis firms Chainalysis and Nansen have reported that $99 million was withdrawn from the $LIBRA token’s liquidity pool by wallets linked to its creator after Argentine President Javier Milei promoted it. This activity occurred shortly after Argentine President Javier Milei promoted the $LIBRA token, leading to a rapid increase in its value, followed by a significant decline. Milei denied involvement, while the project's CEO called it a “failed initiative” and not a scam.
