What is Sui Network?

SUI is the native token of the Sui network, a next‑generation Layer 1 blockchain built for high throughput and low latency. Instead of the traditional account‑based model, Sui uses an object‑centric architecture and enables parallel transaction execution, allowing many transactions to be processed simultaneously.

It uses the Move programming language and a novel data structure called “objects,” enabling parallel transaction execution and dynamic on-chain assets. This means better performance and flexibility without sacrificing security.

Sui was launched by Mysten Labs and is designed for both developers and users. Sui makes it easy to create, trade, and manage digital assets, especially in interactive gaming, dynamic NFTs, fast Web3 applications, and real-world scale.

Since its launch in May 2023, SUI has gained attention for powering a developer-friendly chain and an expanding ecosystem of dApps. As of writing, it ranks in the top 30 cryptocurrencies by market cap, making it one of the most watched Layer 1 tokens in the space.

2026 is shaping up to be a pivotal year for Sui with its planned rollout of native private transactions, designed for institutional adoption. This feature focuses on selective disclosure, allowing users to keep data private from the public eye, while retaining the ability to share transaction details with auditors or regulators, if needed. Mysten Labs co-founder and chief product officer Adeniyi Abiodun shared that the feature will work at the protocol level and not require users to opt in manually.

SUI Tokenomics

SUI has a total supply of 10 billion tokens. As of now, over 3.6 billion tokens are already in circulation. The SUI token plays multiple roles in the ecosystem: it’s used to pay for transaction fees, stake for network security, and participate in governance.

The distribution is designed to support both community growth and long-term development, with allocations for early contributors, investors, and ecosystem initiatives.

The all-time high price for SUI was $5.35, recorded on January 4, 2025. As of now, SUI is trading at $1.78 and is ranked #27 in terms of market cap.
